World Business Briefing: Ireland: Ryanair Withdraws Aer Lingus Bid


Ryanair, the discount airline, withdrew its $1.95 billion hostile bid for Aer Lingus after the European Union said it would start an inquiry into the proposed takeover over concerns that it would restrict competition for flights from Dublin to London. Both airlines are based in Dublin, and together handle about 61 percent of flights at its airport. Ryanair said it would make a further offer if the review gave clearance.
