World Business Briefing: Canada: Goodyear To Change Tire PlantThe Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company will stop producing tires at its Valleyfield, Quebec, plant and turn it into a materials mixing center by the end of June, cutting 800 jobs, the company said. Goodyear expects to save about $40 million a year under the plan, which will cut the hourly and salaried work force at the unionized plant to 200 from about 1,000. Goodyear expects to take charges of $115 million to $120 million, or $165 million to $170 million after tax, for restructuring and accelerated depreciation at Valleyfield, with most of the charges in the fourth quarter.
