World Briefing | The Americas: Bolivia: Opposition Calls Strike


Opposition leaders in six of Bolivia’s nine provinces, including Santa Cruz, the country’s economic powerhouse, called a 48-hour general strike to begin today to protest the rushed approval of a draft constitution that would give more power to President Evo Morales. Protests in the city of Sucre, where Congress is based, over the weekend led to at least three deaths and hundreds of injuries after clashes with the police.
