World Briefing | Asia: Malaysia: Hindu Loses Bid To Block Son’s Conversion


Malaysia’s highest court rejected a Hindu woman’s plea to stop her Muslim-convert husband from changing their 4-year-old son’s religion to Islam, in a case that has raised more concerns over minority rights. The couple, who are seeking a divorce, are ethnic Indians. The court ruled a child could be converted to Islam with the consent of one parent. The ruling means the woman could lose custody, as Malaysia’s Islamic courts will not give custody to a non-Muslim parent.
