World Briefing | Africa: Chad: Army Battles Rebels Near Sudan


The Chadian Army clashed with rebel forces near Adé in eastern Chad. Chad’s Defense Ministry blamed Sudan and said the rebel attack violated a peace agreement signed by the two nations on March 13 intended to halt cross-border attacks. Sudan denied involvement and the rebel group, the National Alliance led by Gen. Mahamat Nouri, said the government attacked first.
