Oracle Buys Agile Software

SAN FRANCISCO, May 15 (AP) — The business software maker Oracle made yet another acquisition on Tuesday with a $495 million deal to buy Agile Software.

After the deal, an all-cash purchase, closes in July, Oracle, based in Redwood Shores, Calif., will have spent more than $25 billion since 2004 snapping up smaller software makers in a challenge to SAP of Germany, the leading provider of business applications used to automate a wide range of administrative tasks.

Agile, based in San Jose, Calif., specializes in software that helps companies manage crucial products.

Although its target market is relatively small, Agile Software could help Oracle sell more software to hundreds of SAP customers, said Bruce Richardson, an analyst at AMR Research.
