North Korea Test FearsTHE United States is deploying a squadron of stealth fighters to South Korea amid speculation that North Korea may be ready to test a second nuclear device. A spokesman for US Forces Korea said about 15 to 20 F-117A Nighthawk fighters would be sent to South Korea. "This is a routine deployment," Kim Yong-kyu said. "It is a regular operational matter." Over the past few years the US military has regularly sent the radar-evading fighters to South Korea for stays of a few months. North Korea has criticised previous deployments as preparation for invasion and nuclear war. It conducted its first test of a nuclear device on October 9. Last week the US television network ABC cited US officials as saying North Korea was preparing for another test. However, both US and South Korean officials have publicly said there was no evidence a test was imminent.
