Looking Ahead: This Week’s Planned Economic Reports


RATE CUT EXPECTED The Federal Reserve meets on Tuesday, when it will decide how deeply to cut interest rates. A cut of a half point to three-quarters of a point is expected.

ECONOMIC SIGNALS Economic reports this week will include fourth-quarter current account deficit and industrial production and capacity utilization for February (Monday); producer price index for February and February housing starts (Tuesday); and leading economic indicators (Thursday).

COMPANY REPORTS Earnings will be dominated by the big Wall Street banks. Reports will come from Bear Stearns (Monday); Adobe Systems, Darden Restaurants, Goldman Sachs and Lehman Brothers (Tuesday); Borders, General Mills, Morgan Stanley and Nike (Wednesday); and 3Com, Barnes & Noble and Palm (Thursday).

VISA’S PUBLIC OFFERING Visa will price its initial public offering on Tuesday. The company plans to offer 406 million shares at $37 to $42 a share in a bid to raise about $15.8 billion, based on the midpoint of its price range.

ET CETERA Advertising Age will have a digital marketing conference in New York (Tuesday and Wednesday).

The New York International Automobile Show will have its press preview on Wednesday and Thursday. It opens to the public on Friday.

It is a short week, with markets closed for Good Friday.
