Interim Pact Averts Comair Pilots? StrikeCINCINNATI, Dec. 28 (AP) Union leaders representing pilots at Comair, the Delta Air Lines unit, agreed Thursday night to postpone the deadline for reaching a consensual wage-cutting deal, averting the possibility of a weekend strike. The 1,500 pilots represented by the Air Line Pilots Association had authorized union leaders to call a strike this weekend if Comair threw out their contract and imposed $15.8 million in annual wage cuts and other concessions, which Comair had been ready to do Saturday. Comair says it needs the concessions to emerge from bankruptcy. A union spokesman, Paul Denke, said that leaders agreed to a deferral until Feb. 2, and that both sides would continue to negotiate. The deal also leaves pilot pay at its current level during the deferral period. A Comair spokeswoman, Kate Marx, said the company agreed to the deferral as a way to continue working toward a consensual agreement. The airline’s pilots fly 795 daily flights to about 100 cities throughout North America. Comair is seeking savings of $70 million a year as it tries to exit bankruptcy along with Delta. Comair’s plan includes concessions from its flight attendants and mechanics. Comair had received permission from Judge Adlai S. Hardin of Federal Bankruptcy Court to impose the wage cuts and changes in work rules on its pilots after the two sides were unable to reach agreement in earlier negotiations. The pilots threatened a strike if Comair imposed the cuts. Tag CloudExternal InformationAdditional InformationChina and U.S. Disagree Over Tainted Heparin...Frontier Silicon wins new funds...
