E*Trade Reports Quarterly Net LossFiled at 4:14 p.m. ET NEW YORK, April 17 (Reuters) - E*Trade Financial (NASDAQ:ETFC) Group Inc on Thursday reported a quarterly loss, as the company continued to deal with losses from its home equity portfolio while trying to stem a client exodus to its rivals. The discount brokerage reported a first-quarter loss of $91.2 million, 20 cents per share, narrowing from a net loss of $1.7 billion, or $3.98 per share, in the previous quarter, when the brokerage teetered on the brink of bankruptcy. A year ago, E*Trade had net income of $169.4 million, or $0.39 per share.
