Collector Makes No Bones About Cost

PARIS A private American collector paid 592,250 euros (£467,000) for the rare skeleton of a triceratops, a three-horned vegetarian dinosaur that roamed the Earth 65 million years ago, Christies auction house announced.

The unnamed collector bought the near-complete skeleton after it failed to find a buyer at an auction in Paris on Wednesday.

Bidding for the 25ft-long skeleton reached 490,000 euros at the auction, falling short of the 500,000 euros reserve price.

The bones were found in North Dakota and sold in 2004. They had been owned by a European collector. (AFP)
