Artists Breath New Life Into Keith Haring Mural

New York

A 1980s New York city street mural by the artist Keith Haring that lasted only a few months may soon be repainted. A gallery and a foundation that represent Haring, who died from Aids in 1990, have hired a team of artists to re-create the work, above, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of his birth.

The untitled DayGlo pink, orange and green landmark was first created on a freestanding slab of concrete near Houston Street, Manhattan, and the Bowery in 1982. It lasted until it began to fade and Haring painted over it to prevent it from further deterioration. (AP)
